This training module focuses on understanding the relationship between social isolation and loneliness, using data and research to identify key risk factors. It provides an opportunity to discuss methods for identifying and addressing cases of loneliness, as well as strategies for mitigation across partner countries. The module also explores approaches to promoting interpersonal relationships among older adults. Additionally, it offers an introduction to the FRIEND Program, explaining its goals and how it aims to empower older adults to build meaningful and positive social connections.

This module explores how ageism shapes our views on ageing and affects older adults' friendship and participation in society. It also examines how social relationships evolve over time and highlights the importance of social connections for community well-being. Finally, it offers strategies facilitators can use to promote inclusion and encourage social engagement among older adults.

The module presents the general structure of the FRIEND programme and the key skills to be a FRIEND Facilitator, by identifying strategies for group management, for dealing with sensitive situations and for retention of participants.
